How We Support Our Patients

Patient Info

Appointment Information
  • To request an appointment, please contact the surgery during opening hours by phone on 045-868305 or by email to info@woodssurgery.ie.
  • For urgent appointment needs, please phone us directly on 045-868305, as we cannot guarantee a prompt response to email or online requests.
  • Appointment requests are available to existing patients of the practice. For specialised services such as contraception, minor procedures, joint injections or other specific treatments, patients from other practices are also welcome.
  • We will do our best to accommodate your preferred appointment date and time, though this may not always be possible. Once we receive your request, a member of our team will contact you to confirm your appointment details.
  • We aim to follow up promptly. If you do not hear from us, please phone 045-868305.
  • Important: Please do not use email for urgent clinical queries, as we cannot ensure a timely response. For any urgent medical concerns during surgery hours, contact us by phone on 045-868305.
  • For emergency issues, please follow HSE guidance. For emergencies that require immediate attention or life-threatening situations, please dial 999 or 112, or attend your nearest Emergency Department.
  • We strive to keep waiting times short and run our clinic efficiently. Please arrive on time for your appointment.
Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions can be requested online.

For private patients, a fee applies for prescription requests. Repeat prescriptions are free for GMS patients under the Medical Card scheme.

Please allow at least three working days for prescriptions to be processed. We encourage patients to order early, as all requests are carefully reviewed and this takes time.

If you have been given a new prescription by a consultant or hospital, please contact your pharmacist first. They can often supply medication promptly and forward the prescription details securely to us via Healthmail or other approved channels if needed.

Regular attendance with your GP is important for the safe management of ongoing prescriptions.

Appointment Cancellations

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please cancel at least one full working day in advance - phone us on 045‑868 305 or use our cancellation form here. This allows us to offer the appointment to another patient, as demand can be high.

Infectious Symptoms

To protect our patients and staff, we isolate anyone with infectious symptoms. If you have symptoms, you will be asked to check in by phone and wait in your car until called for your appointment.

Emergencies

In emergency situations or where a patient is critically unwell, they will be prioritised. This may occasionally lead to delays, and we appreciate your patience and understanding when this occurs.

New Patients

We are currently not accepting new patients.

Doctor & Nurses

You are welcome to see any doctor or nurse in the practice. However, for continuity of care, we recommend attending the same clinician for ongoing or long-term concerns whenever possible.

How We Communicate

The Woods Surgery communicates with patients by text message, email, phone and postal mail to ensure you receive important updates, appointment reminders and follow-up information.

Results

Please contact the surgery directly for your results or fill out our test results form here.

We aim to have blood test results available within two weeks. Many results are ready sooner, but some tests may take longer due to laboratory processing and clinical review. In certain cases, your doctor may advise a follow-up appointment to discuss results in more detail.

For blood tests arranged by a hospital consultant or external clinic, please provide the lab form or a written list that clearly includes the consultant’s or doctor’s name and specialty.
